Matthew's Blessing

Sunday, November 4th we had Matthew's baby blessing.  It was a great day, and we felt so lucky to be able to spend the day with our wonderful family and friends.

It started out a little hectic.  We wanted to get to church around 8:40 to save some seats, but we got there at about 8:45.  Well, there were no rows open up front, with the exception of a few on the side.  So we grabbed them 3, and then someone stole one row.  No big deal.  In hindsight, I wish we would have just sat in back, but whatev.  

We quickly found out that they had four baby blessings that day.  FOUR.  When we asked about it at the beginning of October the bishop told us there would maybe be one other one.  Luckily, Matthew was the first one up.  Matthew was a little fussy right before the blessing, so I was concerned that he was going to cry during it, but thankfully he calmed down.  Connor did a wonderful job with the baby blessing.  

Then during church, Matthew did pretty well.  He was a little fussy when I held him, but I passed him off to Connor and he did much better and fell asleep and slept the rest of the time.  After sacrament meeting, Connor told me that Matthew had pooped.  After some inspection, he hadn't just pooped.  He had a blow out.  I was concerned because I thought it was going to ruin his cute white blessing outfit, but amazingly it only got on the onesie.  That was easy enough!  I took him out of his blessing clothes and wrapped him in a receiving blanket.  We went home, and I changed him and put him back in his cute little outfit.

At home we had a little brunch with family and friends.  We had never had that many people in our house, and it made it feel very very small, but it was fun regardless.  Of course, everyone wanted to a chance to hold the cutest baby ever.

Once people started to go home, I was exhausted.  My mom was nice enough to clean up and make us some dinner while I rested upstairs with Matthew.  

It was a really great day.  Matthew was worn out after it, too.  He pretty much slept all day Monday.

An Adventure

Today we went to P Town (aka Provo) so I could go to the dentist and get some X rays of my teeth.  I haven't had any in over a year since they didn't take X rays while I was pregnant.

(Yes, I still go to my dentist in Provo.  I tried to switch to a local one once, and he tried to tell me I had 5 cavities that I didn't really have.  So, I go to one that I trust.)

Anyway.....

I was a little nervous about the car ride going down.  Matty is not a huge fan of his car seat, and it's about an hour away.  So, I sat in the back with him on the drive and he actually did really well.

At first he was enthralled while looking out the window, but he eventually fell asleep.

The dentist was good.  No cavities!  Then we headed to the cemetery for a visit.

  

On our way home we stopped at Culver's for lunch.  We had never been there before, but had heard it was good, and it was.  Connor got their custard flavor of the day and it was delicious.  It's probably a good thing that it's so far away because I would want to go there every day.

After lunch we drove the rest of the way home, and Matty slept really well until we got off the freeway.  Then he was done and wanted out of his car seat.  We really timed that perfectly.

Although Matty is much to little for Halloween, we had fun all the same.  We got this super cute outfit from one of my baby showers (we actually got 2 -- a newborn and a 0-3 months size.  He's way too big for the newborn one.)  He looked sooo cute in it, and it glows in the dark!  At the very least, Connor and I had a lot of fun.

One Month Old

It's hard to believe that it's already been 1 month since Matty was born.  It's probably been the hardest month of my life, but also the most rewarding by far.

When do people with  newborns find time to blog?

Here's little Matty at 2 weeks old.  Isn't he cute?

At his 2 week checkup he measured 22.5 inches long, and weighed 8 lbs 15 oz.  He's in the 95th percentile for his height, and 55th for his weight.  But for his height and weight combined he's in the 5th.  He's tall and skinny!  I'm trying to get him to eat more, but he just falls asleep.  Occasionally he goes on a marathon eating spree, and all he wants to do is eat for what seems like hours.

He's a happy, healthy, beautiful little boy, and we are crazy in love with him and his cuteness.
